Last Responder is a national program created to support the professionals who respond after first responders - the Medicolegal Death Professionals (MDPs) who serve at the intersection of public safety, public health, and the justice system.

This work is essential. 

It is also often invisible. 

Last Responder exists because there was a gap - no dedicated infrastructure for the emotional, professional, and human realities of working with death every day. The profession demands accuracy, compassion, resilience, and restraint, yet those who do this work are frequently overlooked in conversations about responder wellness, recognition, and support. 

Last Responder is built from inside the profession, not around it. We understand the cumulative trauma, the responsibility of speaking for the deceased, the weight of death notifications, and the quiet impact this work has on families, careers, and lives. We also understand the pride, integrity, and purpose that keep these professionals showing up - even on the hardest days.

This program is focused on building the foundation for the infrastructure needed to support the medicolegal death profession. 

Last Responder operates as a program of Responders Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to strengthening and supporting responder and public service professions nationwide.
